From Narain V. Hingorani, AIS President American Institute of Sindhulogy (AIS) completed five years of operation since its inauguration on 6th August 2000 by Mr. Ram Jethmalani former Minister of Law and Justice and Indias foremost Constitutional Attorney, in presence of a large gathering of American, Canadian, Sindhi and Indian dignitaries. With continued constructive input and support of our valued readers during this period, AIS has undertaken various activities in pursuit of its mission to promote awareness of Indus/ Saraswati Civilization. Earlier this year AIS in association with Sindhi Internet Resources launched protests against the threat of deletion of "Sindh" from Indian National Anthem arising from the notice issued by the Supreme Court of India, and another threat by India’s Minister of tourism to change the name of river "Sindhu" to "Singhe". Both these threatened moves were vigorously opposed by AIS and were finally thwarted. Researchers and those who wish to understand more about these two issues and the struggle initiated by AIS may turn to National Anthem Issue and River Sindhu Issue on this website Successful resolution of these two important issues has played a major part in upholding the significance of Sindhu heritage. Another encouraging outcome was the demonstration of unity in support of these two platforms from all Indian communities, Sindhi and non-Sindhis from all over the world. In particular, we were heartened by scholarly and enlightened observations and articles written by Shabnam Chaturvedi, Jagdip Chhada, Gaurav Kotwal, K. Rishi, I. Shukla and others, which were published in India Cause, Sasialit, SAJA, Link, Hope and other web-sites and papers. Our special gratitude goes to Jagjit Mirchand for his immense assistance via his net work and through various Yahoo Groups. BOOK DISTRIBUTION Earlier this year we crossed 4000 libraries academic and public, to whom AIS have donated copies of "Return of the Aryans" or sent letters by postal service or mail urging them to purchase the book with their own resources. In our last letter we advised that we had suspended writing further letters to 2000 more libraries pending settlement of issue of regular and continuous supply of the books from publishers Penguin India . David Davidar CEO Penguin Canada was approached to explore the prospect of their instituting the supply of "Return of the Aryans" from India to USA/Canada. We have received a note from David Davidar (Text Given Below) that the book will be available at Penguin Canada by end of the year for distribution to bookstores and consumers. "Thank you for your e-mail. My colleague Don Robinson who is in charge of imports from Group companies is working on getting your book into Canada . We will need to import the book, catalog it and complete various other procedural before we are able to sell it into stores in Canada – all this will take a few moths, so the book will probably go on sale toward the end of the year. All the best. David" Contact information is given below, if any of our readers wish to contact Penguin Canada directly: Penguin Group ( Canada ) 90 Eglantine Avenue East, Suite 700 Toronto, Ontario M4P 2Y3 Phone: 416-925-2249 Fax: 416-925-0068 Email: [email protected] AS soon as we receive confirmation regarding shipment of books from India AIS will resume addressing letters to remaining major USA libraries followed by libraries in Canada . We reiterate our request to supporters of AIS’s mission to write letters directly to libraries in their areas, which we believe will have much greater impact. SCHOOLS PROGRAM To further support the objectives of our mission AIS has requested school authorities in Illinois to consider inclusion of Sindhu (INDUS) and Saraswati Civilization in the school Curriculum along with other world Civilizations. We also sent letters to government officials, school principals, and other education officers. For copies of these letters and list of persons to whom the letters were sent, please click on the links provided in the School Program section of our website www.sindhulogy.org. AIS intend to eventually cover all 50 USA states. We have received a very positive response from Mr. Jesse H. Ruiz, Chairman Illinois State Board of Education regarding learning opportunities regarding Sindhu-Saraswati Civilization, which AIS can provide. As suggested by him, we will now address Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) and Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA) to consider our program for presentation at their joint conference in November. AIS will also separately contact the Executive Director of Illinois Principals Association on this issue. Faquir Vohra, our Director for Education and Research will be actively involved in the School Program We also received an encouraging reply from Jan Schakowsky, Member of Congress, 9th District Illinois and her offer of further assistance through her Evanston Office. FUTURE ACTIVITIES AND CONCLUSION AIS mission is voyage; a journey and a pilgrimage that you, our well wishers, and we have courageously undertaken together to promote the awareness of Sindhu/Saraswati Civilization and Cultural Heritage. Together we rejoice in our achievements and together we will share our burdens and feel the pain of our setbacks. With your encouragement and appreciation we have come a long way; but we have far to go. Our other planned programs such as School Project, Indus Exposition and more as detailed in our earlier news letters will continue to fall behind unless there is urgent infusion of new donations. AIS have already been granted non-profit status for another five years. We have retained our Domain name for next Six years. We have pleasure in announcing that AIS have been fortunate to have untiring and dedicated person Nand Belani as our new Director who has volunteered to be our webmaster and share his expertise in other related activities. His services will help to lighten some burden on our finances. For some time we have felt the need to engage the services of a professional marketing consultant to help us connect AIS with Indian and USA mainstream media and establish contacts with appropriate Foundations and Endowments for soliciting financial support for our worthy cause. Our director Hiro Mirchandani has undertaken to work on this important aspect of our endeavor and we hope and pray for early success in his efforts. On behalf of all of us at AIS and all our valued readers, we congratulate our director Ram Advani and his family on his miraculous recovery and welcome him back amongst us after his long, arduous but unwavering and heroic struggle to over come a serious condition. God will grant him a long happy life of love and service. We look forward to your continued support and reassurance and your faith in our mission and activities, which keep us going from day to day. We will neither reduce our tempo to carry on all the planned activities nor slacken in our efforts to explore new avenues of finances.
